Johan is a retired actuary, with a career spanning more than 36 years in financial services in various senior management roles.

He was a member for 8 years of the ASISA sub-committee responsible for the fund classification standard for Collective Investment Schemes (CIS) and also worked on technical committees responsible for TER and Performance fees. Johan gained a wide range of experience in his working career. 
 
Johan started his career at Sanlam, in what was called the Pensions division in those days. After qualifying as an actuary, he moved to Southern Life, where he eventually headed up individual life product development, and a brief stint heading up marketing as well as new business administration and underwriting. Thereafter he joined the then called Gensec Asset Management (now known as Sanlam Investments), which is where he finished his career. He started off in the Institutional client services area, looking after large investment clients and providing quarterly investment feedbacks. From there he moved to head up Technical Product Development, and chair the committee that assessed and approved all new product development. 

Johan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Town and qualified as a Fellow of Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He completed the regulatory exam to provide investment solutions to clients.
